Five Signs you Need New Gutters

Your gutters likely go months, if not years, without attention. You let them fill up, you empty them, and then you let them fill up again. But how do you know when you need to replace the gutters on your home in Gig Harbor, Tacoma, or Port Orchard? Here are five signs you consider replacing them.

1. Cracks

Cracked gutters are as useful as a bucket full of holes. And these cracks, no matter how big or small are an indication that it’s time to get new gutters. Larger cracks will likely be visible from the ground, but smaller holes might only be noticeable during a rainstorm. Be on the lookout.

2. Stress

Because they span long lengths, your gutter likely includes seams, and when stress is placed on these seams the start to break down. Stress on the seams of your gutters is usually caused by gutters that are too full for too long, and while they can be mended short-term, you want to keep an eye on these before the gutter splits completely. And just as fate would have it, it will likely happen during a heavy rainstorm.

3. Exterior Home Damage

Your gutters protect your entire home, not just your roof. So, if you are starting to notice paint that is peeling or rotting facia, your gutters are probably to blame. If this kind of damage is evident around the perimeter of the home, consider replacing your gutters.

4. Foundation

Your gutters protect your foundation too. And when they are not working properly you will start to see water pool or mildew form at your foundation. If you notice this, call a professional come to take a look. Your foundation is crucial, and you want to make sure you’re not doing damage to the foundation.

5. No Longer Attached

This can almost go without saying, but if your gutters are no longer attached, or are sagging, it’s time to get them replaced. They have likely been neglected for too long, and a repair will be cost-effective.

Gutters are one of the most important components of your roof. They move water away from the roof and the home and prevent unnecessary water damage.

If it is time to replace your gutters, we recommend you go with a seamless gutter that includes a cover to keep out debris, Not only will this save you time, as you will be cleaning your gutters less, but it will also help to keep water away from your roof and home.
