Five Ways to Know Your Roof Installation Went Well

A new roof on your home in Gig Harbor, Port Orchard, or Tacoma is a substantial investment – one you want to be done right. But for the typical homeowner, it can be difficult to know if your roof installation went well. Let’s talk about five ways you’ll know your roof will keep the weather outside.

No exposed nails: From the ground, you will be able to see that all nails are fully covered by shingles to prevent water infiltration.

Proper flashing: Flashing is the material used to seal joints and seams on a roof. It should be installed correctly to prevent water from entering the home. Make sure your contractor has installed flashing in all the necessary areas, including around chimneys, vents, and skylights, and ask them to show you where it’s installed. That way, you can inspect it properly when you do routine maintenance.

Clean work area: A quality roofing contractor will leave the work area clean and free of debris. They will dispose of any old roofing materials and will leave the job site clean. This includes nails, which can be dangerous to leave on your lawn and driveway. Make sure your contractor goes over your lawn and driveway with a large magnet to ensure every last nail is picked up.

No leaks: A well-installed roof will not leak. To ensure that your roof is leak-free, you can do a visual inspection after heavy rain. Look for any signs of water damage or leaks in your attic or ceiling.

Warranty: A reputable roofing contractor should offer a warranty on their work. Make sure you have a written warranty that covers both materials and labor. This will give you peace of mind knowing that your roof is protected.
