Our Top 5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Roofer

Hiring a roofing contractor to work on your home in Gig Harbor, Port Orchard, or Bremerton can seem like an intimidating process, and often homeowners aren’t quite sure what essential information they should know about their contractor. As your go-to roofing contractor for the Kitsap Peninsula and Tacoma, we want you to feel comfortable with your decision, so we have put together a list of the top five questions you should ask before hiring a roofing company.

1. Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

When looking to find a roofing contractor you need to make sure they are licensed and bonded professionals who are specifically trained for the job. We have roofers who are trained for both residential and commercial roofing projects and are licensed and bonded. That means our insurance policy protects you, the property owner, should anything go wrong.

Be sure to ask if the company carries both workers compensation and general liability insurance, as both are required.

2. What is your stance on safety?

Safety should be the top priority for any type of contractor you hire, especially a roofing contractor. Working on a roof can be dangerous if you aren’t correctly secured, or if you don’t have proper access.

At Rainy Day Exteriors, safety is our highest priority because we are committed to making sure all our employees do the best job for you and go home to their families each night.

3. Will you provide an estimate in writing?

Always make sure you are given a written estimate that becomes a part of your contract. The estimate should include the cost of removal, disposal, materials, and labor. It should also include estimates for unforeseen conditions, like rotten plywood, or damaged flashing.

All of our estimates are completed by our owner, Jim. He has worked in the roofing industry for more than 20 years and enjoys providing this personal approach to each of our customers.

4. Do you offer a warranty?

A new roof is a big investment, and for a new roof installed today, it should carry a 25-year warranty, at a minimum. A warranty for the materials will depend on what the manufacturer offers and can range from 25-50 years depending on the type of roof you choose.

At Rainy Day Exteriors, we have gone one step further by providing a complete workmanship warranty for the life of materials and as long as you own your home. It’s part of our commitment to help our customers protect their biggest investment.

5. Who is installing or repairing my roof?

Some companies hire out the work to a subcontractor. While this is a perfectly acceptable approach, if the company you hire goes this route, you need to make sure the work of the subcontractor is of the same caliber as the roofing company. They also need to be licensed and bonded.

At Rainy Day Exteriors, our work is done by Rainy Day Exteriors employees. This close connection to our employees allows us to guarantee the work performed and ensure our customers get the very best service.
